"I Had No Experience, No Keyboard, No Teacher." — I Learned Anyway.
18 years ago I walked into a church with a broken music department. Out-of-tune playing. No one to direct. A keyboard sitting there with nobody to touch it.
I knew I could help. But I had zero piano experience. No teacher. No keyboard of my own. Just passion and a burning need to figure it out.
So I taught myself. I consumed every resource I could find. I practiced on the church keyboard after everyone had left. I walked long distances to use a friend's keyboard. I made it work with what I had.
And I figured something out in that process — the simplest, most practical way to learn piano by ear. Not the way music schools teach it. The way that actually gets you playing real songs, fast, without years of frustration.
If I had let my age, my lack of money, or my lack of experience stop me — I would never have played a note. Don't let those things stop you either.
